About Karla

Karla Basanez paints from direct observation — landscapes, interiors, and still lifes that hold the particular quality of light in a given moment. Born and trained in the west of Ireland, her practice is rooted in the tradition of plein air painting while remaining in conversation with the quieter strains of contemporary realism.

She studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, and later at the Florence Academy of Art. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

"I am drawn to the hour just before the light changes — when everything is held, briefly, in perfect suspension."

Her paintings are held in private collections in Ireland, France, and the United States. She is a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Oil Painters of America.

"The painting arrived beautifully and exceeded every expectation. It holds an extraordinary stillness — I find myself returning to it again and again."

"Karla's work carries a quality of light I have not encountered in contemporary Irish painting. 'The Amber Hour' is the finest thing in our home."

James & Fiona Hartley Private collectors, London

"Acquired two works at the RHA annual exhibition and commissioned a third. The process was a pleasure from first enquiry to delivery. Warmly recommended."
